I attended my first networking event late last week at the illustrious Pullmans at the Central Coast. It was actually one of the only times I had ever been to one of these events, admittedly I normally do anything to avoid going them, but a very nice lady from the NSW Chamber of Commerce had sent me a complimentary pass, so I swallowed whatever it took and went along.
As I awkwardly made my way around the room with my ‘What do you do… How long have you been doing that…’ small talk I started to floating the question to people ‘How’s your website and digital marketing going?’ I was totally shocked that no one could give me an answer, everyone just shrugged their shoulders. No one was using email marketing to drive sale, lead capture was given a blank expression and the word responsive… well yeah…. not that I blame anyone for not knowing, that’s not my point, my point is is this, what are these companies that have been trusted with the their contracts doing…. my guess is ‘Set and forget’. No… No… No…. people, what kind of service is that, as a digital business consultant and a web designer I must be more conscientious than that and provide a tailored ongoing service which will really help elevate their business… my mantra 😉
These are some of the key things you need to consider implementing:
• Google analytics
This is just a code that you place in the back of your website so you can see how people use your site, where they go and what they are doing.
• Lead capture
Offer massive value upfront to visitors, but they have to sign up with their email address to access this free content. An example of this would be, if you run an accounting firm, offer a free ‘the best yearly company budget planner’ for them to download. When they download, go even further and offer them a free video walking them through how to get the most out of the budget planner.
• Email Marketing
Funnel all of these emails into a email marketing system such as MailChimp and BOOM, there is your captive audience that is going to be interested in the last step and I guarantee they will become paying customers. (you can also read about how to grow your email list here.
• Blog, ebook, coupons, offers….
Get more people to engage and trust your brand and whatever else it is you’re selling.
In my next blog post… I will let you in on a little secret of how I recently made one simple change to one of my clients website pages and increased his business 50% from the previous January (2016), so stay tuned.
If you are employing someone to design and build your website, pay for a good job, please… it’s worth it to your company. Google analytics will let you know more about your audience, then you can use this information to drive your lead capture, then push the prospect down the funnel until they become a paying customer, this is why it is so important to know how your website and digital marketing going.
